In the heat: Cool off in the water on those hot summer days with a swim at Kinosoo Beach, or take a walk along the Marina and enjoy the Lakeshore Business District. Of course, the Cold Lake Marina and the Provincial Park are both launching points for a variety of water sports and provide access to a fantastic lake trout fishery, with pike, walleye, perch and whitefish also found in the lake. Alberta's fishing regulations are available online.

In the cold: Nothing says Canadian Winter like taking advantage of some ice time!  During the winter weather, Cold Lake becomes a playground for outdoor activities such as skating, ice fishing, and, of course, hockey! Always be careful when walking or driving out onto the ice - know the ice thickness and be safe. Also be sure to familiarize yourself with Alberta's fishing regulations, available online.

The Golf and Winter Club

In the heat: Enjoy a relaxing round of Golf on our beautiful 18-hole course, or stop by the clubhouse for a great meal with beautiful views from the patio.

In the cold: When the snow hits, the course becomes a winter playground for cross-country skiers and snowshoers. It's six curling sheets play home to the Cold Lake Curling Club and other local leagues. Some small hills on the course are reserved as toboggan hills for young children.

The Trails

Millennium Trail: The Millennium Trail is a walking and cycling trail leading from the Cold Lake Marina to CFB Cold Lake. The trail is maintained year-round. Special needs vehicles such as scooters and wheelchairs are the only motorized vehicles allowed on this accessible trail.

The Iron Horse Trail: The Iron Horse Trail is a Canadian gem; a reincarnation of abandoned railroad tracks that now forms a part of the Trans Canada Trail. The Iron Horse's 300 kilometers of trail will take you through farmland, parkland and boreal forest with views of historic buildings, gorgeous scenery and quaint farmsteads. The trail can be used for hiking, biking, snowmobiling, cross country skiing or horseback riding with 20 rest stops along its route.

The Energy Centre

The Energy Centre is Cold Lake's state-of-the-art sports and fitness facility. It is home to a world-class fitness centre, activity rooms for children and youth, and the Imperial Place Event Arena. The arena is most often used for hockey, figure skating and public skating, but can also be transformed into a concert venue or a convention centre at any time of the year. Drop in for a fitness class, or a jog around the public indoor track. Keep an eye on event listings for the latest concert or trade show.

Cold Lake Provincial Park

Enjoy camping, biking and hiking trails as well as a variety of water sports at the Cold Lake Provincial Park. With a boat launch, 9 kilometers of formal trails, 117 campsites, playgrounds and fish cleaning facilities, the park is a popular destination. Groomed cross-country ski trails are maintained in the winter. Summer camping reservations can be made at the link above.

Birding: One of the richest birding areas in Alberta is located around Cold Lake. Over 200 species of birds are supported with clear water lakes, marshy wetlands or mixed wood boreal forest habitats.  From mid-May to mid-June is the best time of year to see and hear most of the birds in our area.  It's not uncommon to spot a turkey vulture, great blue heron or a flock of pelicans flying in formation.

Cold Lake Museums and Cold Lake Air Force Museum

The museum is home to the history of Cold Lake. The museum houses an Aboriginal Gallery, Heritage Gallery, Oil and Gas Gallery and Air Force Museum.  The Museum is open seasonally from May-September.
